Care Guide
Every Soromint gown is constructed differently, so the care instructions printed on your garment's label or listed on its product page always take priority over the general guidance below. If your gown's label or product page specifies a particular cleaning method, follow that instead of anything on this page.
Know What You're Working With
Most Soromint evening gowns combine several distinct layers and decorative elements. You may find a sheer mesh or tulle overlay embellished with beads, sequins, or thread embroidery; a structured lining underneath; lace sleeves or neckline details; and ruched or draped fabric panels that create shape. Each of these components responds differently to handling, moisture, and pressure.
Before cleaning or storing your gown, identify which parts are embellished, which are sheer or delicate, and which are structured. This helps you decide where to apply gentle attention and where to avoid pulling, rubbing, or folding.
After Each Wearing
Formal gowns often accumulate invisible dust, perfume residue, or light skin oils after an event. These can gradually dull sequins and beadwork if left unaddressed.
- Check the gown under good light for any loose threads, displaced beads, or small marks before you put it away.
- Hang the gown on a padded hanger in a well-ventilated area for several hours to let any moisture from the evening evaporate naturally.
- If the skirt or overlay has picked up lint or pet hair, gently lift it off with your fingers or a clean, dry microfiber cloth. Avoid brushing embellished areas with anything that could catch on beads or sequins.
Dealing with Spills
If a spill occurs, act quickly but conservatively. Blot the affected area with a clean, white, absorbent cloth—press down without rubbing. Rubbing can push liquid deeper into layered fabric and may dislodge or flatten beadwork.
Do not apply stain removers, solvents, or household cleaning products unless your garment's care label explicitly permits them. Unknown substances on delicate mesh, tulle, or embellished surfaces can cause discoloration or dissolve adhesives holding sequins and beads in place.
If the spill has soaked through multiple layers, or if it involves anything other than water (wine, oil, cosmetics, food), stop and move to the professional cleaning section below.
Storing Between Events
Evening gowns lose their shape and sparkle when compressed or tangled. To protect the construction:
- Use a padded or wide-shoulder hanger to support the structured bodice without distorting the neckline or shoulder seams.
- If the gown has a tulle cape, full skirt, or voluminous layers, consider a breathable garment bag that allows the fabric to hang without being crushed. Avoid sealing in plastic for long periods, as trapped moisture can affect delicate overlays.
- Keep embellished areas free from contact with zippers, hooks, or rough surfaces in your closet. Beads and sequins can snag or detach when pressed against other garments.
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, which can fade dyes in sheer overlays and lining fabrics over time.
When to Seek Professional Help
A qualified dry cleaner or formalwear specialist is the right choice when:
- The care label specifies dry cleaning or professional treatment.
- A stain persists after gentle blotting.
- Multiple beads, sequins, or embroidered elements have come loose.
- The structured bodice, lining, or boning has shifted or been damaged.
When you bring a gown to a professional, point out the embellished areas and any specific concerns so they can adjust their handling accordingly.
